Downgrading a sponsorship

You can downgrade your sponsorship to a lower tier or cancel your sponsorship.

About sponsorship downgrades

When you downgrade or cancel a sponsorship, the change will become effective on your next billing date. There are no refunds for payments for GitHub Sponsors.

Downgrading a sponsorship

  1. On GitHub, navigate to the sponsored account's profile.

  2. Navigate to your sponsorship dashboard for the account.

    • If you're sponsoring a personal account, under the user's name, click Sponsoring.

    • If you're sponsoring an organization, to the right of the organization's name, click Sponsoring.

  3. Optionally, to manage a sponsorship on behalf of an organization, on the right side of the page, use the Sponsoring as dropdown menu, then click the organization.

  4. On the right side of the page, beside "Select a tier", review the sponsorship tiers available. If more than one type of tier is available, "Monthly" tiers are shown by default. Click One-time to show the tiers for one-time payments.

  5. To the right of the tier you want, click Select.

    Alternatively, if you want to select a custom amount, enter the sponsorship amount in the text field provided, then click Select.

  6. Click Update sponsorship.

Canceling a sponsorship

  1. In the upper-right corner of any page, click your profile photo, then click Settings.

  2. In the "Access" section of the sidebar, click Billing and plans, then click Plans and usage.

  3. Optionally, to manage your sponsorship on behalf of an organization, in the upper-left corner, select the Switch to another account dropdown menu, then click the organization.

  4. Under "GitHub Sponsors", next to the sponsored account, click your current tier amount, then click Cancel sponsorship.

  5. Review the alert about canceling your sponsorship, then click OK.

Canceling a scheduled sponsorship

Organizations that pay for GitHub Sponsors by invoice can schedule the first payment for the next billing date. You can cancel the scheduled sponsorship before it becomes active.

  1. In the upper-right corner of GitHub.com, select your profile photo, then click Your organizations.

  2. Next to the organization, click Settings.

  3. In the "Access" section of the sidebar, click Billing and plans.

  4. Under "GitHub Sponsors", in the yellow banner with the start date, click Undo.

  5. Review the alert about undoing the activation of the sponsorship, then click OK.
