You can set up automatic workflows to move issues and pull requests to a project board column when a specified event occurs.

To configure automatic workflows, you must have write access to the repository. You must be an owner or member of an organization to configure automatic workflows on an organization-wide project board.

Tip: To edit columns that already have configured automation, click Manage at the bottom of the column.

Configuring automation for a repository project board

  1. On GitHub, navigate to the main page of the repository.

  2. Under your repository name, click Projects. Project tab

  3. In the projects list, click the project board you want to automate. Select project board

  4. In the column you want to automate, click the three dots in the upper-right corner. Edit icon

  5. Click Manage automation. Manage automation button

  6. Under "Automation", select an automation preset using the drop-down menu. Select preset automation from menu
  7. Select the workflow automations you want to configure for the column. Select automation options

  8. Click Update automation.

Configuring automation for an organization-wide project board

  1. In the top right corner of GitHub, click your profile photo, then click Your profile. Profile photo

  2. On the left side of your profile page, under "Organizations", click the icon for your organization. organization icons

  3. Under your organization name, click Projects. Projects tab for your organization

  4. In the projects list, click the project board you want to automate. Select project board

  5. In the column you want to automate, click the three dots in the upper-right corner. Edit icon

  6. Click Manage automation. Manage automation button

  7. Under "Automation", select an automation preset using the drop-down menu. Select preset automation from menu
  8. Select the workflow automations you want to configure for the column. Select automation options

  9. Click Update automation.
